ABOUT THE USMC PFT CALCULATOR
This Marine PFT calculator applies official 2026 scoring standards to give you an instant Physical Fitness Test score across all three events. The USMC PFT calculator covers pull-ups or push-ups, plank or crunches, and the 3-mile run — scored by age group and gender. The PFT runs January through June each year for all active duty and reserve Marines. Your score feeds directly into your composite score, promotion eligibility, and FITREPs.

TRAINING TIPS
Pull-up volume
- –Grease the groove — sub-max sets throughout the day
- –Negatives build tendon strength for high reps
- –Weighted 2×/week, bodyweight volume 3×/week
- –Increase total weekly reps ~10% per week
Plank endurance
- –Static holds at 70–80% of max, 3–4 sets daily
- –Hips level at all times — sagging ends the test
- –Breathing control is the limiter past 2 minutes
- –Most reach 3:45 max in 6–8 weeks of practice
3-mile pacing
- –Negative split — slower mile 1, close hard
- –One long slow run weekly builds aerobic base
- –400m intervals at goal pace, 6–8 reps, 2×/week
- –Full race sim on measured course 2 weeks out
Test day
- –Dynamic warm-up 10 min before first event
- –All 3 events within one 2-hour session
- –Hydrate the night before, not just the morning
- –Know your required per-event points beforehand
WHAT SCORE DO I NEED?
Pick your target classification and we'll show the minimum per-event performance required to reach it.
These are approximate minimums assuming an even point split across events. You can compensate for a weaker event by excelling in another as long as each event scores at least 40 pts.

HOW YOUR PFT AFFECTS PROMOTION
Your PFT score feeds directly into your Composite Score — the number used for promotion to Corporal and Sergeant. Understanding how it's weighted helps you see how much the PFT actually matters to your career.
The difference between a 1st Class and Distinguished Expert PFT can mean 12 additional composite points. In competitive MOSs with high cutting scores, those points can be the difference between promoting and not. The PFT is one of the few composite factors entirely within your control.
INJURY, WAIVERS & SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Not every Marine tests under standard conditions. Here's what you need to know about medical waivers, partial tests, postpartum provisions, and authorized alternatives.
Injury or medical condition
Partial PFT- —Marines with a documented medical condition may be authorized a Partial PFT (PPFT) by their CO.
- —A PPFT covers only the events not affected by the condition. Points are still awarded for completed events.
- —Marines must score at least the minimum in the two completed events plus enough additional points to reach 100 total across those events.
- —Inability to perform any portion of the PFT due to medical condition is not counted as a failure — a directed comment is placed on the FITREP instead.
- —Medical documentation from a Healthcare Practitioner (HCP) is required before the test date.
Postpartum Marines
Extended window- —Postpartum Marines receive an extended period to complete their PFT — typically 12 months from the date of delivery.
- —The commanding officer determines the specific timeline in accordance with MCO 6100.13A.
- —Postpartum Marines may substitute the 5,000m row for the 3-mile run regardless of age, with CO approval.
- —PFT failure during a postpartum period does not count against the Marine for promotion purposes provided proper documentation is in place.
Age 46+ row alternative
Authorized substitution- —Marines aged 46 and older may substitute a 5,000m row on a Concept 2 ergometer (PM3 or later) for the 3-mile run — no CO approval required.
- —The row is scored using the same points scale as the run for their age and gender group.
- —Marines under 46 may use the row only with HCP recommendation and CO approval.
- —The ergometer must be a Concept 2 model with a Performance Monitor 3 (PM3) or later — no other models are authorized.
Missed PFT window
Administrative consequences- —Missing the PFT window without authorization is treated as a PFT failure for all administrative purposes.
- —Authorized exceptions (deployment, medical, emergency) must be documented and approved by the CO before the window closes where possible.
- —Marines who miss the window are ineligible for promotion consideration during that period.
- —Commands are responsible for scheduling and administering tests — it is also the individual Marine's responsibility to know their window and complete requirements.
- —Marines aged 46 and older must complete a Risk Factor Worksheet (NAVMC 11639) 30–60 days before the PFT.
- —The worksheet is self-administered — if the Marine answers "Yes" to any question in Section B.2, an HCP evaluation and signature is required before testing.
- —A current Periodic Healthcare Assessment (PHA) must also be on file.
- —Completed forms are submitted to the CO/OIC for review and approval to participate.
